Light for Life Sefton Ltd. is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and want you to be confident that we are handling your personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

- People who are referred to our services

What personal data do we collect?
The personal data we collect will depend on your interaction with us. This means any information that can directly or indirectly identify you. We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for internal record keeping.

For service users, this can include:
- Personal information - including name, address, date of birth, ethnicity, gender etc.
- Information about your needs – this will vary greatly from individual to individual but can include highly personal information in relation to housing need, financial circumstances, health, mental health, substance use, offending etc.
- Information about any risks to you or others – this will include, for example information about people who are at risk of self-harm or domestic abuse
- Information about what support we have provided to you – we will record what actions our workers have taken and how you have responded e.g., if we have helped someone get a property, if someone with mental health issues is engaging with the community mental health team and so-on.
For supporters we will mainly use your data to:
- Administer your donation and/ or support fundraising, including processing gift aid
- Keep a record of your relationship with us
- Ensure we know how you prefer to be contacted
- Understand how we can improve our services, products or information.
How do we collect personal data?
We collect data about you in a number of ways, including:
- Information you provide to us directly
- By way of assessment of needs and circumstances or communicating with us by telephone, letter, email, contact form
- Information you provide indirectly
Your information may be shared with us by other organisations such as referrals, or through fundraising activities
Information from other sources
Social Media - Depending on your settings or the privacy policies for social media and messaging services like Facebook, WhatsApp or Twitter, you might give us permission to access information from those accounts or services.
Information available publicly - This may include information found in places such as Companies House and information that has been published in articles/ newspapers.
Website - When you use our website your personal data is collected using “cookies” and other tracking methods. Our website may contain links to enable you to visit other websites of interest easily. However, we would like to make you aware that we do not have any control over any other websites. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not
governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.
How do we use, process and share information?
The information you provide to us will be held securely by us whether the information is in physical or electronic format.
We may share data with other agencies such as the local authority, funding bodies and other appropriate organisations. We will never share any of the information you provide to us with any third parties for marketing purposes. We will only ever share information with organisations and bodies where you have provided explicit and informed consent except where required by law e.g., regulatory bodies, legal advisors or the police.
Light for Life regards the lawful and correct treatment of personal information as very important to successful working, and to maintaining the confidence of those with whom we deal. Light for Life intends to ensure that personal information is treated lawfully and correctly. To this end, Light for Life will adhere to the Principles of Data Protection, as detailed in the Data Protection Act 2018.
How long will we keep your personal data?
We may keep your personal data for no longer than necessary in order to provide our Services to you and to fulfil legal, contractual and regulatory requirements. We will always comply with legislation and commissioner guidance in relation to the length of time we store information.
We will keep your data for a period of 3 years, after you have left the service. Your data will then be minimised and only the following information will be kept:
Your name and date of birth to identify you should you re-engage with the services of Light for Life Sefton Ltd. in the future.
A list of the services you engaged with including dates of entry and exit, again this would be able to help us better support you should you re-engage.
In some exceptional cases we may have to keep additional information. This will only be done if there were any significant risks to other service users, staff or property which we’d need a record of should you re-engage.
This information will only be kept for a maximum of five years after you have left the service.
What are your rights with respect to your personal data?
You have rights, subject to exemptions, under the DPA and GDPR:
- To be informed via this Privacy Notice about our collection and use of your personal data
- To withdraw your consent at any time, where we are relying on your consent as a basis and / or condition for processing
- To make a subject access request for a copy of your personal data
- To request that we correct your personal data if it is inaccurate or out of date
- To request that we erase your personal data where it is no longer necessary for us to retain it
- To request a restriction is placed on further processing where there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your personal data
- To request that we provide you with your personal data and where possible

Please note that information about a deceased person does not constitute personal data and is not subject to the DPA and GDPR. Therefore, we are not obliged, nor we will respond to, requests under the DPA and GDPR in respect of the information of deceased individuals (regardless of your relationship to them) as a matter of course.
Freedom of Information
Light for Life Sefton Ltd. is not subject to the Freedom of information Act. This is because we are a charitable organisation. We do not constitute a public authority under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), and therefore, we are not obliged, and we will not respond to, requests under such legislation as a matter of course.
